Termination of Studies (for Personal Reasons) of Students and Candidates Starting their Studies in Semester 1
Procedure on notice of termination of studies
Students or candidates who have paid an advance payment or installment no. 1 for the 2024-2025 academic year and decided to terminate their studies at the University in this year must notify the Student Office or the Registration and Admissions Unit in the Registration and Student Administration Division thereof immediately in writing.
New students admitted shall notify the Registration and Admissions Unit by the end of the first month of their studies. From the second month of their studies, the students must notify the Student Office.
The notice shall be delivered by the student.
- By personal delivery to the Student Office or the Registration and Admissions Unit in the Registration and Student Administration Division.
- By means of the student portal at my.tau.ac.il/TAU_Student (under Requests and Approvals: Application for graduation).
- By the Inquiry Portal
- By registered mail.
A certificate from the post office on having sent the notice by registered mail, or a written confirmation from the Registration and Student Administration Division on receipt of the notice of termination of studies will serve as support for the fact that the student gave notice of termination of studies.
Students giving notice of termination of studies by letter or by email must verify receipt of approval of their notice within two weeks of sending the letter.
Only after implementation of the guidelines will completion of handling the student’s account be performed.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, students who are not enrolled for any courses (except for anyone who does not have to listen to courses or there is an academic impediment to the student’s registration for courses) until the final day of the later enrollment for courses in the same semester, will be deemed to have notified of termination of studies on the same date, even if no notice thereof was delivered.
The Regulations on Termination of Studies will apply to such student as set forth in the following table.
Please note, the notice of termination of studies will block access to the library and the internet.

The termination of studies regulations do not apply to the following populations, to whom the entire amount they paid on account of the tuition fee will be reimbursed:
1. A candidate who was rejected for failing to meet the standard required in English/Hebrew by the start of the academic year.
2. A candidate who was obligated to study a summer course (such as a preparatory course in physics, which is required for those admitted to chemistry) and failed the preparatory course final examination.
3. A candidate who is admitted to only one of two majors (in a double-major) and who pays the advance, and is thereafter rejected from the second major, or no decision was made, will have the entire payment reimbursed to him if he notifies of the cancelation of studies within two weeks of the date of the notice of rejection from the second major. This rule will also apply to anyone who has not yet received a reply from the second major, if the candidate satisfies one of the following alternatives:
- The candidate chose these majors as a first priority, on condition that by that stage the candidate was not admitted to another major of a lesser priority, that would create a double-major.
- The candidate chose these majors as an alternative and on the same day replies had not yet been sent to the major/s chosen as first priority.
- The candidate chose these majors as an alternative and was rejected from the first priority.
