Top Five Projects: School of Medicine & Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences

Research and Teaching Powerhouse

TAU seeks a visionary donor for its largest project ever – the dedication of its School of Medicine, the largest in Israel, one of the world’s most influential biomedical research complexes and the jewel in the University’s crown.

Ranked #1 in Israel, the School is the largest, leading, most popular and most influential medical school in the country. Some 6,500 MD graduates serve as doctors throughout Israeli hospitals and medical centers, representing 20% of all Israeli physicians. Its faculty members have obtained the most prestigious competitive grants from institutions including the National Institutes of Health, US Department of Defense and European Research Council. They have made seminal breakthroughs in diverse areas of biomedicine and produced numerous technologies and startups based on their inventions. These range from 3D-printing the world’s first functional model of glioblastoma brain tumors to the development of innovative methods for diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative conditions.

High Impact Initiative

The dedication of the School will enable it to build on – and expand – its immense impact thus far and pursue the following goals:

  • To expand state-of-the-art research in emerging fields, leveraging technological developments toward new breakthroughs and translating research into novel diagnostics, treatments and cures.
  • To upgrade the School’s capacity to train outstanding, compassionate medical graduates to shape and lead Israel’s healthcare system
  • To bolster Israel’s contribution to improving global health

Alongside dedicating the School of Medicine, the donor will also be granted the naming of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, an umbrella entity that includes 22 departments spanning the biomedical sciences and four schools in addition to the School of Medicine, as well as that School’s building.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a donor to have a substantial influence on health and well-being in Israel and, indeed, to facilitate a giant leap for biomedical research and teaching in the country and beyond.
