Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Which other country has a national anthem about hope? Only Israel. There’s never been a tragedy in the Jewish story of 4,000 years where we haven’t emerged stronger at the end, and the same will be true for us now after October 7th.

What brings us together runs very deep and strong because we are, in fact, optimistic. When the current war is over, there will be a new Israel along with a stronger global Jewish people. And playing an essential role in rebuilding Israel will be Tel Aviv University. Not only has TAU beautifully supported the war effort, but it demonstrates national leadership and is involved in so many different ways throughout the entire country and the world.

To adequately finance our extraordinary institution, we’re embarking on a 21st century comprehensive campaign. It includes three major components: the current drive to increase the endowment to $1 billion; raising annual funds for academic activities; and also supporting building construction and renovation. This kind of campaign creates an opportunity for everyone to be able to invest in building this flagship institution for the State of Israel.

There is no world class university that does not have reserves, does not have an endowment. We are seeking donors for legacy gifts, naming gifts, and estate planning gifts. It’s a blessing and a source of deep meaning that we have families of two, three or even four generations involved in TAU – let’s use this as an opportunity to solicit these major endowment gifts. We also need to bring in new people.

I’m optimistic that we will build a large endowment that will keep us strong through the next generations. I am full of hope. May we strengthen each other, and God bless you for all the good you are doing on behalf of the University.
