While volunteering in Israel’s National Service program, Yehudit Kabeda realized that she wanted to start a career helping disenfranchised and marginalized groups. She understood that in order to effectively advocate on behalf of others, she needed a law degree.

However, Yehudit worried about financing her university education.  Her parents, who immigrated to Israel from Ethiopia before she was born, worked in low-wage jobs and had five children to support. Help came in the form of the Sir Ronald Cohen Scholarship, which is awarded annually to talented students of Ethiopian origin.

Immediately upon beginning her studies at Tel Aviv University, Yehudit became involved in the University’s legal clinics. She worked closely with women from low socioeconomic backgrounds and advised them on how to start up their own businesses. This experience reaffirmed her desire to become a public interest lawyer.

Yehudit recently completed her final year of studies at the Buchmann Faculty of Law and is now interning at one of Israel’s oldest law firms.
