TAU 8th in the World and 1st Outside of U.S. for Start-Up Founders

29 September 2020

807 undergraduate entrepreneurs at Tel Aviv University, who have founded 673 companies and raised $16.1 billion in capital by September 2020, place Tel Aviv University as number 8 in the world and the first outside the United States in the rankings for the university programs that produce the most entrepreneurs that go on to garner venture funding. The ranking is organized annually by business information company PitchBook.

It is the sixth year in a row that TAU is ranked among the nine first universities, following American elite universities like Stanford University, University of California, Berkely, MIT and Harvard. TAU is ranked before the universities of YALE (11); California (13) and Princeton (14).

Three additional Israeli universities feature on PitchBook Universities: 2020 ranking: The Technion ranking 12th, Hebrew University 32th and Ben Gurion University 46th.

Among the five large companies that were founded by TAU graduates are mentioned: Generate Capital ($1252.1), Exaware ($401.54), Varo ($419.33), BlueVine ($426.29) and Houzz ($613.6).

In the Major Leagues with MIT and Harvard

PitchBook counts the startups that have raised capital in the U.S. since 2006. The change from 2019 and 2020 is another indication of the Tel Aviv and Israeli startup scene: 113 Tel Aviv University graduates, who were added last year, place it in 3rd place (just like MIT and Harvard) This year, 92 Technion graduates (7th place), 68 Hebrew University graduates and 45 Ben-Gurion graduates were added to the list.

In a separate rating, for MBA graduates, TAU ranks 13th in the world and is the only university in Israel among the top 25 universities in the world. That result was achieved with 306 MBA graduate entrepreneurs.

Alumnae Starring

This year, for the first time, TAU alumnae also feature in two separate rankings of the top 25 universities in female entrepreneurship graduates.  TAU is ranked 21st with 53 female undergraduates, and 15th with 20 MBAs.
