TAU Presents Friendship Award to Argentinean Vice President
Tel Aviv University awarded the TAU Friendship Award to the Vice President of Argentina, Mrs. Marta Gabriela Michetti, during her visit to Israel, which was regarded as a milestone event for Israeli-Argentinian relations.
The prize was awarded to Michetti in recognition of her warm friendship toward Israel, her dedication to strengthening academic cooperation between Argentinean and Israeli institutions – among them Tel Aviv University – and her endeavors to reinforce economic, diplomatic and trade ties between the two countries.
TAU Vice President for Resource Development, Amos Elad, welcomed Michetti by saying that her visit has special significance as it takes place during Israel's 70th anniversary.
TAU President, Prof. Joseph Klafter, presented the award together with Mrs. Polly Mizrahi de Deutsch, President of TAU's Friends Association in Argentina. "Occasions such as these highlight the importance of international academic cooperation," Prof. Klafter said. "I believe this visit will serve to enhance and expand opportunities and frameworks for working together."
During the visit Mrs. Michetti and her delegation heard from leading TAU professors on the research currently being conducted on campus in the areas of genetics and cancer, rare diseases, urban innovation and sustainability, and more.
Mrs. Deutsch summarized the importance of the visit for enhancing academic exchange between Israel and Argentina. "Education is the best means for developing a more egalitarian world and strengthening democratic values," she said.
