Argentinean Friends Tackle a World of Increasing Risks

The Argentinean Friends of TAU celebrated the 20th anniversary of its legendary International Economics Symposium in Buenos Aires.

Featuring talks by renowned economic analysts, the annual economics symposium of the Argentinean Friends of TAU was once again a resounding success with over 1,400 people attending, including diplomats, business and community leaders.

 

Participants were warmly welcomed by TAU Honorary Doctor and President of the Argentinean Friends Polly Mizrahi de Deutsch, who thanked "all those that have made the symposium a reality for the past 20 years: the speakers, sponsors, partners, friends, volunteers, members, professional staff and the public."

 

This year's distinguished group of panelists discussed the topic, "The Socio-Political Context in a World of Increasing Risks.” Dr. Mario Blejer, former President of the Central Bank of Argentina, and Dr. Gustavo Canonero, General Manager and Director of Economic Research for Emerging Markets at Deutsche Bank (USA) analyzed the international monetary situation. Joaquin Morales Solá, political commentator, and Dr. Rosendo Fraga, well-known attorney, political analyst, journalist and historian, gave their perspective on the socio-political situation.

 

Presenting Argentina's current economic policy were Dr. Miguel Kiguel, Director of EconViews and Mutual Funds Mergainver Inversión and former chief consultant to the Argentinean Ministry of Economy and Undersecretary of Finances; Lic. Claudio Zuchovicki, Capital Markets Development Manager at the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange and economics commentator; Dr. Bernardo Kosacoff, former Argentinean Director of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Professor at the University of Buenos Aires and National University of Quilmes; and Dr. Eduardo Levy Yeyati, former World Bank Senior Adviser for Latin America and Chief Economist of the Central Bank of Argentina. Economist and journalist Enrique Szewach moderated the discussion.

 

The Argentinean Friends paid tribute to Dr. Miguel Kiguel for his years of dedication in organizing and participating in the conference. It was also announced that Dr. Bernardo Kosacoff has joined the symposium's organizing committee in the role of Academic Advisor.   

 

Held since 1996, this flagship event of the Argentinean Friends has become an influential forum, famous for its high academic standard and the impact it has in the business world.
