The best ranked subjects at Tel Aviv University are:
- Mathematics (37),
- Communication and Psychology (both scoring between 51-75), closely followed by
- Physics, Automation and Control; Environmental Science and Engineering; Biological Sciences and Statistics - which all score between 76-100.
Methodology
According to its website, ARWU uses six objective indicators to rank world universities, including:
1. Quality of Education - as indicated by number of alumni of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (weight 10%)
2. Quality of Faculty - as indicated by number of staff of of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (weight 20%)
3. Quality of Faculty - as indicated by highly cited researchers (weight 20%)
4. Research Output - as indicated by number of papers published in Nature and Science (20%)
5. Research Output - as indicated by number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index (20%)
6. Per Capita Performance - Per capita academic performance of a university (10%)
The top five universities ranked are: Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and University of California, Berkeley.
