Theater Arts: Where the World’s a Stage

The theater arts are an especially effective vehicle for creative expression and societal dialogue. They give a voice to the voiceless, encourage vibrant democracy and a healthy civil society, and enable the formulation of new narratives in accessible and entertaining ways. For Israel, a nation steeped in trauma, theater has been a robust meeting point for artistic expression. It has been a means to empower and transform different groups in a divided society.

As Israel’s oldest, largest and most influential department in the field, Tel Aviv University’s Department of Theater Arts has educated the country’s top actors, directors, playwrights and designers for nearly 60 years. It offers a high-level combination of theoretical and practical courses, and enables students to participate in several annual productions in their area of study. The Department offers research tracks up to the PhD level and houses the Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts, the world’s largest archive on the history of Israeli and Jewish performing arts.

A donation to TAU’s Theater Arts Department would strengthen the University’s impact on Israeli society and safeguard a vital element of its cultural heritage.
