Nichita, 22, is a 4th year student of film production at TAU’s Tisch School of Film and Television. He chose to study at TAU because of its diverse range of classes and opportunities in his field. “I considered many institutions, but I saw that TAU was the place that would allow me to grow the most and advance the furthest in my career,” he says.

Nichita made Aliyah from Moldova on his own in 2017 while he was still in high school, out of Zionism and the desire to be among Jewish people like himself. He is glad to be in Israel despite the challenges of learning Hebrew and being far from his loved ones. As he must support himself financially without his family present, Nichita receives tuition assistance from TAU’s Student Success Center.

“Though supporting myself is still difficult, the scholarship I receive from the University makes a big difference in allowing me to spend more time on school and advance in my field,” he says.

Nichita’s interest in film grew out of a lifelong love of art. “I feel that film brings together many different art forms,” he says. “I am particularly interested in experimental film because it offers a chance to push the boundaries of convention and to try new things.” He is highly committed to entering the film industry, getting involved wherever he can. He and a fellow student arranged and ran the experimental film competition at this year’s TAU Student Film Festival. He was also involved in this year’s Haifa Film Festival and works at the Cinematheque in Herzeliya, a theatre showing independent films and hosting many film festivals and workshops.

"I love the people I study with here at TAU. Because moviemaking requires many people working together, I have gotten very close with the other students in my program,” he says. “I feel a part of the community and immersing myself in the local film scene has also helped me learn Hebrew more fluently. I hope to continue my studies abroad and explore other film landscapes.”
