Canadian Prime Minister to visit TAU
On Wednesday Stephen Harper will visit Tel Aviv University to receive an honorary doctorate.
The Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honorable Stephen Harper, arrived in Israel today, January 19th, for a four-day official visit. This is the first state visit of a Canadian prime minister to Israel since the year 2000.
In recognition of his outstanding support of Israel, his active role in combating anti-Semitism and other extremist views, and his staunch championing of freedom, human rights and the rule of law, Mr. Harper will receive a Tel Aviv University honorary doctorate at a ceremony on the TAU campus on Wednesday, Jan 22nd. The ceremony will be attended by Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, Canadian dignitaries and Canadian supporters of Tel Aviv University. Prime Minister Harper will also meet with TAU students.
During Harper's stay in Israel he will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres, and he will address Israel's parliament, the Knesset, a first for a Canadian prime minister.
