Leaders Honored at Gala Celebration in Montreal

The Canadian Friends (Ottawa, Quebec and Atlantic Canada) held a festive gala attended by TAU and the CFTAU leadership and members.

TAU President Joseph Klafter and Vice President for Resource Development Amos Elad, together with Ottawa, Quebec and Atlantic Canada President Claire Dalfen; CFTAU National President Jeff Wagman; Gala Chair, CFTAU National Chair and TAU Honorary Doctor Judge Barbara Seal; and Consul General of Israel Ziv Nevo Kulman, joined 300 guests to celebrate the University's 60th anniversary at a gala fundraiser honoring local leaders, the Honourable Herbert Marx and Mayor Denis Coderre.

 

"Herb, we are delighted to recognize your role and dedication tonight," said Prof. Klafter as tribute was paid to former president of the Canadian Friends and TAU Governor the Honourable Herbert Marx for his deep commitment to and exemplary leadership of the Friends Association, his endeavours to promote the University and contribution over decades to scholarship, research, and innovation.

Acting as keynote speaker at the event was Mayor of Montreal Denis Coderre, who was presented with the President's Award by Prof. Klafter in recognition of his efforts to enhance the lives of local residents, strengthen the standing of the City of Montreal, endeavors to combat anti-Semitism and racism, and his unwavering friendship toward the State of Israel and the Jewish people. "It is a great privilege to bestow the President’s Award on Mayor Coderre as a symbol of our two cities’ friendship and the close Israeli-Canadian relationship," said Prof. Klafter.

During the event, three future TAU students were awarded Judge Barbara Seal scholarships for study in the International MA in Security and Diplomacy Program, the International MA in Environmental Studies and the International MBA program at the Coller School of Management.

Prof. Klafter warmly thanked Judge Barbara Seal, Claire Dalfen, and the organizers – stewarded by the new Executive Director, Sharon J. Fraenkel with special thanks to sponsors and donors, especially Principal Sponsor and Executive Committee member Ms. Sharon Steinberg.

 

Prof. Klafter and Mr. Elad were welcomed to Montreal by Mayor Coderre at City Hall, where Prof. Klafter signed the Golden Book. As part of their visit, the TAU officials held private meetings with TAU supporters and met with representatives from Concordia University, McGill University and the University of Montreal to discuss future collaborations.
