Spanish Friends Welcome TAU to the Andalusia Region

Marbella, Spain, served as the backdrop for three days of festive events held in July

The Spanish Friends of TAU organized a series of events at the luxurious seaside town of Marbella, Spain. As part of a festive three days, TAU representative for the Andalusia Region Patricia Nahmad organized a series of events attended by top TAU officials President Joseph Klafter, Vice President Amos Elad, Senior Resource Executive for Latin America and Spain Herman Richter, and President of the Spanish Friends and TAU Governor, Isaac Querub.

 

In his keynote speech to a conference attended by over 200 participants, Prof. Klafter spoke on the topic of inter-cultural connections and the role of Israeli academia and TAU in building bridges of shared knowledge, understanding and hope between nations and within society. "Tel Aviv University is your portal to everything that is positive and forward looking in Israel: Promoting values of democracy and human rights, technology in the service of humanity, and building a better, healthier and more hope-filled future for everyone," said Klafter. Amongst those attending were the Hon. Consul of Israel in Andalusia, Raphael Cohen, diplomats from the US, Morocco, Costa Rica and Panama, representatives of the University of Málaga, and new members of the Spanish Friends.

The TAU delegation was warmly welcomed to Málaga by mayor Francisco de la Torre, and met with the Rector of the University of Málaga, Adelaida de la Calle, to discuss future collaborations and academic exchange.

The festivities continued at the home of Remedios and Juan Del Rio who generously hosted a group of prestigious guests at a lively evening, where Mrs. del Rio was recognized for her outstanding efforts to open new avenues of cooperation and support for TAU. Prof. Klafter also acknowledged the extraordinary contributions of Isaac Querub; Raphael Cohen; TAU Governor and former President of the Spanish Friends, Henri Misrahi; and Patricia Nahmad. Also attending were TAU Governor Jacques Abecassis and newest friends of TAU Ben Nemenyi and Elena Ohayon. Thanking the guests, Prof. Klafter expressed his enthusiasm to "integrate Tel Aviv University into the cultural and intellectual life of the wonderful city of Marbella."
