Tel Aviv University Climbs to 206th Worldwide in Taiwan Ranking 2026

The prestigious Taiwan Ranking (NTU Ranking) 2026 places Tel Aviv University first in Israel and 206th worldwide, marking an improvement of seven places compared to last year.

Based exclusively on scientific publications, the NTU Ranking evaluates the world's top 1,000 universities. Unlike rankings that incorporate teaching performance or reputation surveys, it measures research excellence alone, using objective indicators of research productivity, impact, and scientific quality.

 Research Excellence Measured by Publications

The NTU Ranking assesses universities using eight indicators grouped into three categories:

• Research productivity (25%) – the number of publications over the past 11 years and during the previous year.
• Research impact (35%) – citations accumulated over the past 11 years, citations received during the past two years, and average citations per publication.
• Research excellence (40%) – the h-index, the number of highly cited papers, and publications in high-impact scientific journals.

By relying solely on publication data, the ranking is considered one of the world's leading indicators of research performance.

 Leading Israel in Research

This year's results place Tel Aviv University ahead of every other Israeli institution included in the ranking.

 Strong Performance Across Research Fields

Tel Aviv University ranked first in Israel in most academic fields, with particularly strong results in:

• Clinical Medicine: 102nd worldwide
• Life Sciences: 130th worldwide
• Natural Sciences: 229th worldwide, surpassing the Weizmann Institute this year
• Social Sciences: 301st worldwide, climbing 45 places and moving ahead of the Hebrew University
• Agricultural Sciences: 401–450 worldwide, ahead of the Hebrew University

The Taiwan Ranking's Clinical Medicine category does not include publications affiliated with teaching hospitals, unlike some other international rankings.
