Putting Our Energy to Good Use
Renewable energy represents the only viable way for humankind to maintain current standards of living while safeguarding and preserving the planet’s natural resources. The search for efficient, renewable sources to replace expendable fossil fuels has thus become a pressing challenge facing countries across the globe, including Israel.
Recognizing this, Tel Aviv University established the Renewable Energy Center, its flagship hub for R&D in pioneering green technologies. Some 55 star-studded research groups hailing from fields as diverse as engineering, chemistry, plant sciences and biotechnology are affiliated with the Center. Together, they form a multidisciplinary powerhouse that is propelling Israel to the forefront of world renewable energy discoveries in solar power, wind energy, biomass and biofuels, as well as in the ways to convert and store energy once it has been generated. The Israeli government intends for 10% of the nation’s energy supply to be based off renewable sources by 2020.
With the appropriate funding in place, the Renewable Energy Center can play a major role in helping the nation realize this goal through the development of technologies that will directly contribute to Israel’s prosperity and - by reducing the country’s reliance on foreign sources of fossil fuel - enhance national security.
Supporting the Renewable Energy Center presents an excellent opportunity for donors with an environmental outlook and concern for Israel’s resource sustainability.
