 Master Theater with Bernard Murat

The French Friends of Tel Aviv University provided a rare opportunity to 15 select Master of Fine Arts students from the University's Theater Department, who were privileged to participate in an intensive, three-day master class held by Bernard Murat, actor, director, and manager of Paris' Edouard VII Theater.

The students, who are studying acting and directing, were given guidance in performing two French classics – Tartuffe by Moliere and Le Double Inconstance by Marivaux. Mr. Murat worked with the students on reading, interpreting and performing texts representing the 17th and 18th centuries. He also provided the students with a fascinating lesson on the important role theater plays in advancing central ideas, such as education, identity, social status, government and civil rights, and in sparking discussion on questions regarding man and society.

Closely affiliated with the French Friends of Tel Aviv University, Mr. Murat has generously opened his theater for several fundraising events in the past. His visit to TAU was initiated by Prof. Nurit Yaari of the Theater Department sponsored by the French Friends headed by Prof François Heilbronn.
