BOG2024: Opening the Sergio Boim Honigsfeld Foyer and Plaza

Generous donation strengthens the Argentinean Friends’ connection to the Life Sciences faculty

Tel Aviv University held an inauguration ceremony for the Sergio Boim Honigsfeld Foyer and Plaza during its recent international Board of Governors meeting. Situated in the Smolarz Family Building at the Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, the space serves hundreds of students and faculty circulate daily as they embark on their academic journeys.

 

The inauguration came in recognition of the donation made by Mr. Sergio Boim Honigsfeld, a first-time TAU donor from Argentina. In his speech, Boim Honigsfeld mentioned that he learned the value of giving at his parents' home. “It is very important to me to take an active part in strengthening Israeli society and the Jewish people as a whole during these difficult times,” he said at the inauguration. Boim also outlined that his philanthropic giving centers on health, soldiers, and education. 

 

TAU leaders were excited to inaugurate the new partnership. “Today is a truly remarkable day that marks not only the inauguration of a physical space but also the celebration of a new partnership and commitment to excellence. It is with immense gratitude and joy that I stand before you to express our deepest appreciation to our new friend, Sergio Boim Honigsfeld, for his generosity and support,” said TAU Vice President for Resource Development Amos Elad at the ceremony. 

 

 

 

The Sergio Boim Honigsfeld foyer and plaza inauguration further cemented the tie between TAU’s Life Sciences Faculty and the Argentinean Friends of TAU. The partnership, which extends over two decades, helped the Faculty blossom into one of the world’s leading biological research institutions, with more than 100 laboratories and over 500 graduate students.  

 

“I truly believe that better days will come, and we have to continue doing science and providing a better education,” said Prof. Abdussalam Azem, the Dean of the Life Sciences Faculty. 

 

Mrs. Polly Deutch, the President of TAU’s Argentinean Friends’ thanked the donor for his generosity and support. “We really appreciate how you did this- you came by yourself and just gave where it was needed,” she said at the ceremony.

 

The inauguration was attended by TAU supporters and friends, faculty and students. It was completed with a short musical interlude and a festive reception.
