Dr. Shiran Altman-Battler completed her Ph.D. in Law at Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies, Tel Aviv University. Her dissertation, titled “Bargaining in the Shadow of International Criminal Law: Plea Bargaining in International Criminal Law and in International Criminal Tribunals”, was supervised by Prof. Talia Fisher and Prof. Leora Bilsky.
In 2020-2021 Shiran served as a visiting scholar at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University. In 2018-2019 Shiran served as a visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of Law and Society at the University of California, Berkeley.
Shiran obtained her LL.B. in Law (Magna cum Laude) from Buchmann Faculty of Law, Tel Aviv University. During her LL.B. studies, Shiran was a member of the editorial board of “Law, Society and Culture” Law Review, and a member of the Human Rights legal clinic. Shiran obtained her M.A. in Diplomatic Studies (International Relations) (Summa cum Laude, 1st in class) from the Department of Political Science, Government and International Affairs, Tel Aviv University. Her M.A. thesis, titled “Evolution and Revolution: The Legal Status of the Victim in Domestic Criminal Law as an International Norm”, was supervised by Prof. Talia Fisher (Buchmann Faculty of Law) and Dr. Amir Lupovici (Department of Political Science, Government and International Affairs). During her M.A studies, Shiran was awarded two scholarships for distinctive academic achievements.
Shiran serves as lecturer in various courses such as “International Criminal Law and International Criminal Tribunals” and “Analysis of the Legal Text”. Shiran also served as research and teaching assistant to Prof. Leora Bilsky in the fields of International Criminal Law and of Transitional Justice.
In 2020 Shiran won the “Rector’s Award for Excellence in Teaching”.
Shiran also served as lecturer in the courses “Scientific Writing Instruction” and as teaching assistant in the courses: “Introduction to International Relations and Strategy”, “Legal Ethics” and “Labor law”, both at Tel Aviv University (Buchmann Faculty of Law and the Department of Political Science, Government and International Affairs) and at the College of Law and Business (Ramat Gan).
In 2014-2015 Shiran was selected as one of the best 100 junior academic lecturers of Tel Aviv University (TAU “100 club” in Teaching Excellency)
Shiran’s main research interests are international criminal law, international criminal tribunals, international law, international relations and the relationship between politics and the law.
