Argentinean Friends Discuss the Financial Landscape

Featuring talks by renowned economic and political analysts, the annual Economics Symposium of the Argentinean Friends of TAU was once again a resounding success with over 1,400 diplomats, business and community leaders attending. Held since 1996, this flagship event of the Argentinean Friends has become an influential forum, famous for its high academic standard and its impact on the business world.

Participants were welcomed by TAU Governor, Honorary Doctor and Argentinean Friends President Polly Mizrahi de Deutsch and President of the Central Bank of Argentina Dr. Federico Sturzenegger. “The aim of the Argentinean Friends in holding this annual symposium is to offer a framework for expressing pluralistic ideas about the economic and political challenges currently facing the contemporary world,” said Mrs. Mizrahi de Deutsch.

Keynote speaker at the event was Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg, Israeli Knesset member; professor of economics at Tel Aviv University; and former Director of the National Economic Council of Israel and  Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister. In his address, Prof. Trajtenberg emphasized the importance of a country’s economic growth taking equity and justice into consideration in order to be inclusive of all groups within society.

This year's distinguished group of panelists included Dr. Claudio Loser, Founding Director and Chief Executive Officer of Centennial Latin America; Adelmo Gabbi, President of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange; Dr. José Siaba Serrate, well-known economics and financial consultant and columnist; Dr. Miguel Kiguel, Director of EconViews and Megainver Mutual Funds Mergainver Inversión and former chief consultant to the Argentinean Ministry of Economy and Undersecretary of Finances; Dr. Ricardo Arriazu, former adviser to the Central Bank of Argentina and Ministry of Economy; Dr. Sergio Berensztein, political analyst and CEO of Berensztein®; and Carlos Pagni, political consultant. Lic. Claudio Zuchovicki, Capital Markets Development Manager at the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange and economics commentator acted as event coordinator.

Argentinean Minister of the Interior Dr. Rogelio Frigerio gave the closing remarks.

During his visit to Argentina, Prof. Trajtenberg held meetings with Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, Dr. Marcos Peña; Minister of Environmental Affairs, Rab. Sergio Bergman; and Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Lino Barañao. Prof. Trajtenberg also took part in additional events organized by the Argentinean Friends.
