Shir, a student in the lab of Ronit Satchi-Fainaro researching pharmacological solutions for ovarian cancer, was drafted immediately after the war began. She spent 100 days on reserve duty before returned to a busy lab with tons of work to catch up on.  

“Each and every one of us was giving our all,” she said in an interview with Ynet recently. Her team is co-ed, and she said men and women alike were moved to exhibit determination and commitment for the war effort. “Being part of this experience was so moving.”  

“Only by working together and mobilizing everyone can we win," she added. “Every soldier, in combat and on the home front, was deeply invested in their role. That is why we have such a strong chance of success.”
