Meet Shahar
Age: 26
Rank: Captain
Military role: Reserve Medical Officer in a medical rescue coordination unit, stationed in the north of Israel
Studies: 2nd year Dental MD student
Calling: Dentist
Shahar was in Thailand when the war broke out. She returned and headed straight to her unit.
"I was responsible for coordinating any medical emergency needs in our sector, including training and preparing our brigade’s rescue teams and deploying them to suspected locations of hits or debris falls during rocket attacks.”
Shahar came back to the University on time for the beginning of the semester and although she didn’t miss any classes she says that concentrating on her studies Is still difficult. "My main challenge is to disconnect from the war and the reserves and return to the routine of studies, especially knowing that in a few months, I will likely be called back to serve."
Shahar studies dentistry and dreams of becoming a top-notch expert in her field. Just like all the TAU reserve students, Shahar received two rounds of scholarship support and also a waiver for dorm rent payments during the time of her service.
“Not having to pay rent for the dorms during the months that I was serving in the reserve, and having help with tuition payments really helped me feel more secure and made coming back to the routine easier.”
