Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University
The Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University is a registered charitable organization headquartered in Montreal. Founded several decades ago by leading Canadian philanthropists, the Association's primary mission is to raise critical funds for the University.
The Association holds activities designed to encourage Canadian youth to study in one of TAU's many international programs, and to familiarize Canadians with the outstanding scholarship taking place at Tel Aviv University. Events range from gala evenings to parlor receptions, and include symposia and film festivals.
National President: Judge Barbara Seal, C.M.
An engaged leader in Canada's Jewish community, Judge Barbara Seal has held the position of National President of the Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University for more than 20 years. She has served as a judge at the Canadian Citizenship Court since 1997 and was Municipal Councilor of the City of Hampstead from 1980 to 2001.
A TAU Honorary Doctor, Judge Seal has contributed to numerous causes advancing social welfare, medicine and culture for which she was recognized through Canada's highest honor, the Order of Canada. She is married to TAU Governor and Honorary Doctor attorney and retired Municipal Judge Donald Seal, Q.C., who serves as legal advisor to CFTAU.
President: Irwin G. Beutel
Philanthropist and esteemed community leader, Irwin G. Beutel, has been President of Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University, Montreal National Office and Eastern Region, since July 2012. Over the course of his lifetime, TAU Governor Irwin Beutel has won the respect and affection of the Montreal community for both for his visionary leadership and exemplary dedication to Israel-based organizations.
Irwin remains active on numerous prestigious Montreal Boards. Among the many leadership positions he has held are Montreal President, Jewish National Fund; National President, Canadian Friends of Maagan David Adom; National Chair of Canadian Institute of Jewish Research; and Past President of Kiwanis Montreal, St. George Club. Education has been one of Irwin’s key interests. Today, as President of the CFTAU Montreal National Office and Eastern Region, he is committed to winning the interest of a wider circle of Canadians in the University, and particularly younger generations.

President: Jeff Wagman
A graduate of the University of Waterloo, (B.A. Economics, 1979) Jeff has worked in the financial industry for over 30 years, beginning as a Foreign Exchange and Money Market Trader for a variety of major international banks. In 1986, Jeff became a Financial Advisor with a major Canadian investment brokerage firm. Over the past 26 years Jeff has successfully completed many securities industry examinations leading to his current designations as a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and Canadian Investment Manager. As well, Jeff has been an instructor for the Intelligent Investing series of seminars for the Investor Learning Centre from 1997 until 2001. The Investor Learning Centre was a not-for-profit, public educational organization sponsored by the Canadian Securities Institute. In 1998, Jeff became one of five Ontario semi-finalists for the coveted I.D.A. Distinction Award sponsored by the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, now known as IIROC.
Jeff is married to Annalee and they have three grown children (Eric 27, Elizabeth 25 and Stephanie 23). Jeff is very involved in the Jewish community and currently is Treasurer, Harold Green Jewish Theatre and Past Board Chair, BBYO Toronto.
