Social Leadership: Innovating Community Engagement
As Israel’s academic leader in social involvement, Tel Aviv University is now taking community engagement to the next level. TAU’s Social Leadership Center recently launched a groundbreaking initiative, known as the TAU Impact Initiative, designed to embed civic involvement in the University’s teaching curriculum. The first program of its kind in Israel and possibly the world, TAU Impact promotes social activism through accredited workshops that integrate cutting-edge knowledge with community service. This hands-on work in the community is carried out in collaboration with local NGOs and government agencies.
Today, TAU students volunteer in projects that benefit 15,000 Israeli children, youth, adults and senior citizens every year. With TAU Impact fully in place in the coming years, the number of beneficiaries will soar to 50,000. Practical components of the program include mentoring vulnerable youngsters; helping seniors realize their civil rights; enhancing quality of life for the mentally and physically disabled; and empowering women to make Israeli society more equitable. Through TAU Impact, the University is not only bolstering civic responsibility among its graduates but also dramatically expanding TAU’s contribution to society.
Donors interested in enhancing community engagement in Israel should consider supporting TAU’s Social Leadership Center.
