On his first official visit to Russia's second-largest city, TAU President Joseph Klafter spoke at St. Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences on the role of academia in the modern state. "I would say that, especially during these days of economic uncertainty, helping to build up a knowledge economy should be academia's first priority," said Klafter. "I also believe very strongly in the need for universities to globalize their research and study programs, together with their campuses, as a way of exchanging skills and expertise as well as diversifying the academic experience."
During his visit Prof. Klafter signed cooperation agreements with the Rector of St. Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Alexander Zapesozky, and with the Vice Rector of St. Petersburg State University, Prof. Igor A. Gorlinsky.
President Klafter also attended a black tie Chanukah party hosted by First Vice President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Mikhail Mirilashvili, along with TAU Vice President Amos Elad and TAU Senior Executive Dr. Haim Ben Yakov.
