Mediterranean Studies: Bridging Human and Natural Sciences
From marine biologists and economists to historians and linguists, TAU researchers are pioneering new understandings of the multi-faceted Mediterranean region
The Mediterranean Basin, home to diverse societies, ecosystems, trade relations, religions and over fifteen languages, is one of the world’s most dynamic regions. Bridging Europe, Asia and Africa, the Mediterranean has had a formative influence on the development of global economics, science and culture. At TAU, the region is being examined from multiple lenses. TAU’s new, multidisciplinary Mediterranean Sea Studies Center, jointly established with Ruppin Academic College, integrates Israel’s academic and scientific prowess to address the most pressing ecological challenges facing the region, training the next generation of marine experts for the benefit of Israel’s environment, economy and society. Also, TAU’s Center for Mediterranean Civilizations fosters cooperation with regional institutions through joint research projects and conferences, developing educational curricula, providing fellowships, and supporting the teaching of Mediterranean languages.
Help position TAU as a world leader in this important emerging field.
