TAU's Porter School recognized for "green" leadership

The Porter School of Environmental Studies has been recognized as the home of some of Israel's most prominent "green" leaders.

Maariv, a prominent Israeli newspaper, recently conducted the '100 Shades of Green' project, presenting the 100 most influential persons, companies and organizations on Israel's environmental scene, in a range of critical areas: water, energy, recycling, anti-pollution activities, education, food, fashion, technology, transportation, urban sustainability and protecting the environment. Tel Aviv University's Porter School of Environmental Studies was prominently represented. 

 

Prof. Dan Rabinowitz, Head of the Porter School, was recognized in the 'Dreamers' category, as "one of Israel's leading spokespersons on the topic of global warming," author of the Hebrew book "Here It Comes" on the climate crisis, and an activist in a row of environmental organizations for many years. Rabinowitz was described by Maariv as a "supporter of the multidisciplinary approach to environmental research", who has been able to "profoundly grasp the issues at hand and present them eloquently."

 

Prof. Avital Gasith, Founder & Head of Porter School's Master's Program, was mentioned in the 'River Rehabilitation' category, as "indisputably one of Israel's most prominent nature scientists, and an expert on the rehabilitation of polluted rivers, the structure of lake beds and the preservation of nature in bodies of water… the first to study the ecology of Mediterranean rivers, and the first to lay a scientific foundation for the rehabilitation of Israel's rivers."

 

Dr. Arie Nesher, Porter School's Professional Director since its establishment, was noted under the 'Education & Instruction' category as "an architect specializing in urban & regional planning ," who  "in his present position develops environmental studies at the university… training and teaching the next generation of professionals and researchers," while also working to "enhance the School's ties with environmental organizations, commercial companies and industry, and form collaborations with research institutes and academic institutions worldwide."
